Wow! We just love our bean teepee! We started it on June 17th by preparing the soil, setting out the bamboo poles, and planting the beans. We alternated Scarlet Runner beans with Fortex pole beans.

(How do we make that perfect circle? Learn HERE. How do we put up a really big teepee? Learn HERE.)

While the beans were growing, we snuck in some lettuce starts.

The children who volunteer on Tuesday from the South Whidbey Children’s Center love it! The beans are tiny now but we should be harvesting them in a couple weeks.

Update from 2020: This post is quite popular on searches! We now use tree bamboo poles, and our teepees are almost 20 feet tall! You can see our recent bean teepees HERE and HERE. Below are how we make the circle beds, and how we put up the big teepee.
