We celebrated Earth Day at the School Farm on Friday, April 22nd with food and activities for the 550 students K-5 at the Elementary School. On the menu was pea shoot pesto and lettuce wraps, garden veggie soup and a snack maker station where students created their own snacks from veggies and crackers. The pea shoot pesto (grown and made by students) was a huge hit! Enjoying the farm tasting treats followed age-appropriate activities which included making earth flags, garden logos, bird nests, fairy houses, bugs, spirals, rock friends, a guessing table, planting pollinator-attracting plants, trench composting, and starting squash. Click HERE for more details on the activities and garden nibbles.
The students came to the farm by class for the festivities, and then didn’t want to leave! A big thanks to Whidbey Island Nourishes for the the farm feast and their work helping the students make the pea shoot pesto and the garden veggie soup. Another big thanks to the Farm curriculum team of Nadean Curtiss and Jude Bierman for organizing all the activities.
