The Langley Middle School students spent the better part of garden classes in May exploring their garden and harvesting for the Good Cheer Food Bank. Spinach, lettuce, kale, parsley, boc choi and chard were harvested, weighed and packaged for direct food bank supply. What a blessing to see the students so engaged and excited to see the fruits of their labors. And what a great opportunity to teach them some applied math on the side! “We are packaging half pound bags of kale. Our scale measures in ounces. So how many ounces should be present in your bag?!”
Then, by the first week of June, the South Whidbey Academy joined in on the harvest excitement, packing nearly 50 pounds of lake, lettuce and radishes for Good Cheer and happiness!
